Non-Combatants
HMB is an awesome sport to get involved in and there is an important role available for everyone! There is a huge need in a club like this for non-combatants (Non-coms). Your skills are a huge asset for the club. So what are your options?
Please contact us now if you have any of the following skills or interests:
Marshalling
Keeping the fighters safe on the field, and the public safe around it, is your job. You will check the fighter's armour and weapons before they fight, and you monitor and ajudicate the fighting. You are smart enough to know the rules inside out, and there is a calm gravitas about you, that means your word is respected and you are listened to.
In New Zealand the marshalling is done by a team of skilled and approved marshalls, under the guidence of the Knight Marshall (Head marshall in NZ), who is on the international marshalling committee. If you are interested in Marshalling, please contact the club, and we will put you in touch with the Knight Marshall for NZ. (who happens to live here in Hamilton, handy!)
Armourers and Weaponsmiths
Our fighters need to be kept safe, and have and maintain good weapons. Good armour stops most blows in their tracks, and good weapons will drop an opponent in theirs....
If you have metal working experience and have an interest in making combat weapons and armour:
You can learn the craft in our WAC workshop, making armour and weapons for the club or, if you already have the skills, you should consider making armour and weapons for fighters using your own facilities, or in the WAC workshop (conditions apply).
Please contact us NOW, we always have new fighters that are keen to get into armour.
Squiring
On the spot exactly when needed. You can think on your feet. Part water bearer, part knick-of-time armour repairer, part manager. You might have a particular fighter that you want to work with. This is a particularly good arrangement for 1 vs 1 fighters, who need to change armour and weapons swiftly between rounds.
This is a great thing for you to do while you are getting your fighting kit together, as a new fighter. You will gain tons of knowledge about armour, rules, and the skills of fighting.
Team Catering/ Camp manager.
Cooking for the team at "away" events. and making sure that the fighters and other crew are fed, watered, warm/cool, and have the facilities they need to do their jobs well.
Team Tailor
Make gambesons, fighting tabards, banners and flags and help us put together some sharp looking kit for the team, and our events. We have already had positive feedback and public recognition of the WAC tabards!
Promotions and development
Now is our time to develop our brand, get our name out there. We need to grow the club, its equipment, and continue to host great events. If you have the ability to get us and our name out into the world in a positive and dynamic way, we need your skills now!
Fundraising and sponsorship
If you have the know-how to put together grant applications for businesses, local government and other charitable folk and organisations please let us know.
Promotions, and events
If you can run spectacular events, demos and can think of great ways to fly our flags all over the Waikato - we want you!
Media, photography and MCing
Video, Photography and great commentary at events are what help to spread our name to the public.
Medic/Massage
Cramping, muscle strains, bruising, cuts and dehydration are all too common in this sport...it's not tiddly-winks, after all. So having a skilled medic is a great asset to have on hand at an event.
